Profit wins: Elbit Systems facilitated deliveries of microchips used in Russian aggression over Ukraine
On August 19th, 2024, in Chernihiv, Ukraine, Russia injured 214 civillians and killed 7, including a 6 years old girl. In the aftermath of this attack, investigators found a microchip from a missile with an Iskander SN-99 navigation system module. This microchip was produced by Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), also known and further referred to simply as Analog. [1]
Business connections
Analog is a multinational semiconductor company specializing in data conversion, signal processing, and power management technology, headquartered in Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA, and backed by the state of Ireland. Parts from Analog's factory based in Limerick's Raheen Industrial Estate in Ireland are continuously being shipped to the Israel Defense Forces' largest weapons supplier. Their collaboration is ongoing: these parts were shipped from Ireland to Elbit Systems' electronic warfare division in Israel as recently as September 2025. [2]
Analog also shipped the parts, believed to be microchips, to Elisra Electronic Systems Ltd., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Elbit Systems Ltd. since 2011. This means that Elisra is integrated into Elbit's corporate structure. [3] Elisra operates as "ELBIT Systems EW and SIGINT - Elisra Ltd." and continues to work on electronic warfare products. [4] Elbit Systems supplies the Israel Defense Forces with 80 percent of its weapons, including electronic warfare systems made by Elisra. [2]
The Russian link
Through a chain of intermediary businesses located in third countries, Russia imported $326 million worth of Analog components in 2023 as was found out by researchers at the Kyiv School of Economics. [5] It is not known if any of these goods were manufactured at the firm's facility in Limerick, and likewise the underlying business connections remain classified as per usual.
Nevertheless, the microchip case is clear evidence that the involved companies profit from Russian aggression in Ukraine. This applies despite the claims of weapons systems and particles manufacturing companies that they do not provide weapons to Russia and support Ukraine instead. This applies to Elbit Systems as well since they openly state support for European security and readiness to provide their "state-of-the-art solutions" in the face of the Russian threat. [6] [7]
Profit over values
Driven by profit, companies continue to sell technology, weapons systems, and parts to both Ukraine and Russia. As explained by Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense: "Companies can say that they're not selling anything to Russia, that they're just selling to some intermediaries. But it doesn't change the fact that those parts are getting into Russia in huge volumes." [8]
